Trapped in Suburbia…

In perhaps what is becoming a fitting metaphor for the Liberal party’s fortunes in this election it looks like some Liberal candidates are scraping bottom when it comes to elections advertising.

It started off on the weekend, when friends in BC told me that Geoff Fleischer, the Liberal Candidate for the Vancouver Island North riding, had spray painted signs going up next to Conservative and NDP signs.

This morning pictures of the signs showed up on Small Dead Animals. I’ve reproduced the picture here:

Vote for Geoff!

Vote for Geoff!

If that wasn’t enough, Steve Janke has pictures of signs for , Liberal MP for Scarborough-Agincourt, that bear the old ‘Team Martin’ logo from the 2006 election.

Jim is a proud member of Team Martin!

The media has been reporting, with some regularity, the fact that the Liberal Party is strapped for cash. Heck, when the election was first called Stephane Dion had to drive around in a bus while a 30-year-old airplane was retrofitted with seats so the Liberals could fly to campaign stops.

Its hard to say whether these home made and reused signs are evidence of cash strapped local campaigns, a lack of funds flowing from the national campaign, or just signs that the Liberals are really embracing the Green Shift.

In any case I’m surprised the national campaign is allowing such obvious damage to the Liberal brand to occur. Its almost as if they’ve given up already.
