Trapped in Suburbia…

Poor Stephane, he really is beginning to sound comical.

In today’s National Post, Juliet O’Neil tells us that Stephan Dion is urging people to ignore comments that the Liberals are sinking and headed for a trouncing in the Oct. 14th election.

O’Neil reports:

Liberal leader Stephane Dion urged party faithful yesterday to “ignore” the comments of a former party president who said Mr. Dion is not resonating with the public and the Grits are headed for a needed “drubbing” in the federal election.

Asked if Mr. LeDrew’s remarks could undermine party morale he replied, “No, because I know how much our party is convinced that we need to win that for our country. It’s not like it was only a battle for who will have the power to enjoy the power. It’s the philosophies and approach. It’s the kind of Canada we want.”

Stephane’s insistence that party morale won’t be damaged by the revelation that the man who was party president for 6 years – a post that, presumably, comes with the pre-requisite of being a staunch Liberal supporter – says they’re headed for defeat in the polls is almost laughable. Sadly I think he actually believes it.

The US invasion of Iraq gave us ‘comical Ali’, the information minister that insisted the US tanks were being beaten back in the desert even as they were rolling into Bagdad. Its beginning to look like this election is giving us Comical Dion.

  1. Nice one!

LeDrew’s take is pretty much what I am finding when I go canvassing. Granted it is a small sampling but I am not encountering too many strong liberal supporters.

What is clear is that the party is not unified behind the leader and the program seems to lack focus. Voters sense the disarray.

This party needs to find out who it is and what it stands for. This is not 1970 and we are not buying the charismatic french intellectual ala Trudeau.
